Krewe of Nemesis

Guess what? Chalmette is finally integrated! That's a positive Katrina result.

We see evidence of this phenomenon at the Krewe of Nemesis parade. The faces of the marching bands are multi-colored, and not just because of Mardi Gras glitter and makeup.

Integration is good for the children of 'da Parish. It readies them for the real world where white people are a minority. It helps them to look outside of the bubble their grandparents created when the first wave of integration hit the south. And, Mardi Gras is a good time to fly the multi-racial colors of southeast Louisiana proudly.

Let us not forget that we are all in this together. That we are only as strong as our weakest citizen. That we are all responsible for pulling up our fellow Americans so we can stand side by side and listen to the music and shake our booties and shout "throw me something Mister."
